Things to do as you Drive From Chicago to Horicon Marsh
Wisconsin’s Horicon Marsh and our romantic Bed and Breakfast located just 2 blocks away, is the perfect getaway destination for anyone living in Chicago. It takes just about 3 hours to get from Chicago to the Honeybee Inn. Not only is the destination worth it, but the journey is rewarding and beautiful as well. The quickest way to get to us is on I-94 through Milwaukee, and then north onto I-41. Alternatively, you can split off the interstate at Kenosha, explore that charming little town, and then continue north on a smaller and more scenic highway, highway 67. It’ll add an extra 30 minutes of drive-time to your trip, but it’s worth the detour.
Kenosha is a beautiful small town on the shores of Lake Michigan known for its picturesque beaches. The lakeshore here features a miles-long promenade that’s worth checking out, along with a number of one-of-a-kind museums. Take, for example, the Kenosha Public Museum, which houses mammoth skeletons and a model Native American village. Or, there’s the Civil War Museum that explores the war’s impact on the region. We also recommend visiting at least one of their 2 historic lighthouses. The Southport Light Station has a museum where you’ll see an exhibit that shows a 1860s lighthouse keeper’s home. There are also great views over the lake from the top of the lighthouse, particularly worth it on a sunny day.
Another great town to visit along this route is Oconomowoc, which is located in the heart of the Lake Country section of the beautiful Kettle Moraine. The city sits on 3 major lakes: Lake Fowler, Lac La Belle, and Oconomowoc Lake, and is beautiful year-round. Take a scenic walk around Fowler lake, explore the historic downtown with 100+-year-old buildings and homes, and browse the charming shops. Depending on your timing, you’ll want to enjoy lunch or dinner here, and there are plenty of places to choose from. From Oconomowoc, you’re about 40 minutes from your destination; the Honeybee Inn Bed and Breakfast near Horicon Marsh.
